Dementia Friendly Communities

A Dementia Friendly Community is one in which local businesses, organizations, churches, community groups and neighbors make simple changes that help a person with dementia feel welcome and safe.

Dementia Friends

Dementia Friends is a global movement to change the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. To date, there are 2, 726 Dementia Friends, 219 Dementia Champions, and 53 Dementia Friends Master Trainers in Wisconsin. Founded in the United Kingdom, Dementia Friends was brought to Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute in 2018. Dementia Friends Wisconsin is for anyone interested in making a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia.

To become a Dementia Friend:

Participate in a one-hour, no-cost Information Session led by a trained Dementia Friends Champion. Learn the five key messages of dementia, what it’s like to live with dementia, and how to better communicate with someone who has dementia. As a Dementia Friend, you can turn your new understanding of dementia into a practical action that can help someone living with dementia in your community. Your action can be big or small. Call the ADRC at 262-605-6646 and ask for the Dementia Care Specialist.

The Dementia Friendly Community Project

provides a no-cost, 30 minute training about dementia and how to better serve those living with dementia. Call 262-605-6646 to learn more or schedule a training.

Join the growing number of local businesses and organizations who are making our community better for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Where you see the purple angel decal displayed, you can be confident that the organization is "dementia friendly!"

Dementia Friendly Businesses:
