Kenosha County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) will provide free, confidential memory screening and information about community resources. The screenings take five to ten minutes. No appointment is necessary. The Alzheimer’s Foundation urges screening for anyone concerned about memory changes, at risk of Alzheimer’s disease due to family history or who wants to check their memory now for future comparison. Warning signs of dementia include forgetting people’s names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills, and confusion over daily routines, and erratic mood swings. Some memory problems can be readily treated, such as those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems. In general, the earlier the diagnosis, the easier it is to treat memory loss. Screening results are not a diagnosis, and individuals who have concerns are encouraged to pursue a full medical exam.
The Virtual Dementia Tour® assists in increasing sensitivity by providing a hands-on experience that will help us better understand the issues facing both the caregiver and the person living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
