Florence Shumway Kingman

Florence Shumway Kingman was a member of the Kenosha County Equal Suffrage League. In 1915, she was one of four county delegates representing Bristol at the Wisconsin Equal Suffrage League convention.

Florence Shumway was born in July 3, 1854, in Lake County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Laura (Mixer) Shumway, pioneers in Lake County.

She married Salem Township native Frank G. Kingman on December 31, 1876, and made her home with him on his Salem homestead.

Frank, who had served several times as Salem Town Chairman, died August 22, 1906.

Florence was 60 years old the first time she voted in a federal election in 1920.

Kingman died February 18, 1943, in Lake County, Illinois, at the age of 89.
