Emergency Preparedness Planning

Welcome to the Emergency Preparedness Planning website, brought to you by Kenosha County. This website will better prepare you and your family for future disasters by helping you create your own personalized family disaster plan.

A disaster can strike at any time - sometimes without warning. It is important for every Kenosha County resident, especially citizens with disabilities and other special needs to plan ahead for an emergency situation and know what to do in the event of an emergency.

In a major disaster, emergency workers may not be able to reach everyone right away. In some cases, it may take 3 or more days for help to arrive. What would you do if you had no electricity, no gas, no water and no telephone service? Having a plan for your family and their needs will help ensure their safety and comfort during these difficult times.

Kenosha County Outdoor Warning Sirens

Outdoor warning sirens are activated for three conditions:

  • A tornado has been sighted by trained spotter/law enforcement.
  • National Weather Service sees rotation and believes the formation of a tornado is highly possible.
  • Severe thunderstorm warning with hurricane force winds (winds at or in excess of 74 miles per hour).

NOAA Radios

Thunderstorms, tornadoes, floods, blizzards - these are just a few of the potential hazards residents can face in Kenosha County. Having a battery-operated, tone-alert NOAA all-hazard weather radio in your home is like having your own personal alert. The investment of a NOAA all-hazard weather radio will keep you appraised of the current weather situation and an "all clear" when the storm has passed.
