School Resource Officer

Program Overview & Responsibilities

The School Resource Officer Program began in the 1999-2000 school year. The current deputies assigned are Deputy Hyatt at Westosha Central High School and Deputy Isaac at Wilmot Union High School.

The deputies begin as school resource officers by attending a 40-hour basic training offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). After the training the deputies are assigned at the schools. They have offices in the school and report there daily.

Their duties consist of:

  • Assisting school administration in handling student issues
  • Handling school problems, which would normally require a deputy to respond
  • Teaching various classes involving problem solving and law enforcement issues

The response to the program has been excellent from students, school employees and parents.
