Wells

Well Regulation

Wells are regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, both private and public water well programs. For specific information about these programs, you can visit the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Drinking Water and Groundwater website. After viewing this website, if you have additional questions, you can contact the private water supply specialist, Greg Roanhouse, for the Kenosha County area by phone at 262-822-7730, or by email.

Well Permits

The Kenosha County Department of Planning and Development does not require a well permit to be issued prior to well construction, but the Department of Natural Resources does. You can obtain a pre-construction well permit at any retail outlet that sells hunting and fishing licenses to the general public. You can speak to your Wisconsin licensed well driller about this process or contact the Department of Natural Resources for additional information.

The Kenosha County Department of Planning and Development does not require a permit for well abandonment.  For information on Well fillings and sealing, you can visit the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Well Filling and Sealing website.

Well Water Testing

If you are interested in having your well water tested you can visit the Kenosha County Division of Health Laboratory page for more about this procedure.
