Kenosha County’s Brookside Care Center is listed among Wisconsin’s top nursing homes in a new, national ranking compiled by Newsweek.

The report, published online last week, ranks Brookside as the fifth best nursing home in Wisconsin. It is the only nursing home within Kenosha County, public or private, included in the rankings.

“We are honored to see a national outlet affirm what we already know: that Brookside Care Center is the premier skilled nursing facility in our community and among the best in the state,” said Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser. “Kenosha County is proud to offer this self-sustaining service to our residents.”

In compiling the Best Nursing Homes report in cooperation with Newsweek, the statistics firm Statista used two data sources to calculate a score for each nursing home that was part of the analysis:

  • Roughly 46,000 medical experts – including nurses, nursing home administrators, therapists and physicians – were invited to participate in an online reputation survey. Email verification was required and self-recommendation was not possible; e.g.: respondents could not offer a recommendation of a nursing home where they work.
  • Analysis of monthly updated performance data provided by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for each nursing home in the United States that participates in Medicare or Medicaid. The CMS five-star scoring system was modified to a 10-point score to allow for finer evaluation of nursing home performance.

The rank of each nursing home within the 20 states that were surveyed was calculated by combining the reputation survey and performance data scores. All nursing homes that received a score of 5 or more in each performance data domain were ranked in their respective state.

In Wisconsin, seven facilities made the rankings. Nationwide, 406 homes met the criteria for ranking.

“It’s exciting to be recognized for the outstanding services offered to the residents of Kenosha County and surrounding areas,” said Lynda Bogdala, Brookside administrator. “With reputation surveys conducted by medical professionals, it’s an honor to know they have confidence in our ability to provide a high standard of care.”

This is not the first time that a national media organization has classified Brookside among the country’s top nursing homes. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked Brookside 13th best overall in Wisconsin.

That was before Brookside underwent a complete renovation and expansion in 2017 and 2018, refreshing all of the facility’s 154 private rooms and adding a state-of-the-art rehabilitation wing. This project also included the addition of the adjoining Willowbrook Assisted Living facility, offering the opportunity for a continuum of care on the Brookside campus.

Brookside is located at 3506 Washington Road in Kenosha. For more information about the facility, please call 262-653-3800 or visit www.brooksidecarecenter.com. More information about Willowbrook may be found at 262-653-3880 or www.willowbrookofkenosha.com.
