New traffic signals at the intersection of Kenosha County Highway H (88th Avenue) and 65th Street in the City of Kenosha are scheduled to begin operating this week.
Kenosha County Highway Director Clement Abongwa said the signals will be activated Friday.
Previously, this intersection was controlled only by two-way stop signs on 65th Street. The Kenosha County Division of Highways installed the signals at the request of neighborhood residents and with the support of County Board Supervisor Boyd Frederick, who represents part of the surrounding area.
The new signals add traffic control to the intersection that serves as a main entrance to the Peterson’s Golden Meadows and Leona’s Rolling Meadows subdivisions.
“The signals are something my constituents have been asking for, and it’s something that will make traveling in the area safer,” Frederick said. “There’s a park right there now that can be utilized by both neighborhoods, and it will now be a lot safer for residents to access Highway H.”
Foundations for the signals were poured over the summer. The signal equipment arrived from the manufacturer this fall and was installed recently. Pavement striping at the intersection then needed to be completed before the signals could be activated.
“We’re pleased to complete this project, which will enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians in the area,” Abongwa said.
