[ARCHIVED] Kenosha County Sheriff's Department message on the legalization of marijuana in Illinois

Marijuana leaves

In the coming weeks legalized recreational marijuana will begin in the state of Illinois. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department recognizes that residents of Wisconsin can now travel to Illinois and consume recreational marijuana in Illinois.

In an effort to prevent confusion for the community traveling between the states Sheriff David Beth reminds everyone that Wisconsin state laws and Kenosha’s local ordinances have not changed, and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department will continue to operate as normal enforcing these laws and ordinances.

Our deputies will continue their duties educating people about the laws of controlled substances and the dangers of driving under the influence. It is going to be business as usual for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

We will still enforce Wisconsin law even though the substance was legally purchased in Illinois. The public is encouraged to report any illegal drug activity to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department 262-605-5100 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers 262-656-7333.
