[ARCHIVED] 30th Avenue Construction Work Completed

Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser announces the completion of the reconstruction of 30th Avenue between 18th Street and 22nd Street in the City of Kenosha. The road is scheduled to be open by noon on Wednesday, July 31st. The recently opened segment of 30th Avenue completes phase two of a two year infrastructure improvement project. The first phase involved the reconstruction of 30th Avenue from 15th Street to 18th Street and was completed in 2012.

The completion of the two projects significantly upgrades the transportation system in the immediate area of 30th Avenue. The previous two lane rural road was substandard in accommodating traffic volumes and could not support appropriate access to existing and future businesses and residents. The new four lane urban street has been built to modern standards allowing the efficient movement of vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. Additionally, the new street has been designed to allow future access for potential growth of business and residential development.

Under an Intergovernmental Agreement approved between the County of Kenosha and the City of Kenosha in 2012, the newly constructed segments of 30th Avenue from 15th Street to 22nd Street plus 30th Avenue South to Washington Road will be jurisdictionally transferred to the City of Kenosha who will be responsible for future maintenance and control of the street. The jurisdictional transfer will allow the City of Kenosha to provide all services necessary to handle residential and commercial traffic and to control and encourage future economic development.
