FEB. 17, 2021, UPDATE:
The Kenosha County inmate that was transported to the hospital on 2/9/21 after being discovered unresponsive in his jail cell has been identified as Timothy J. Nelson out of Kenosha, WI. On February 12th, 2021 at 3:42 pm Timothy Nelson was pronounced deceased at Froedtert South Hospital due to complications from his critical condition. The incident is still under investigation with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
ORIGINAL FEB. 10, 2021, NEWS RELEASE:
On February 9th, 2021 at 6:38 pm an inmate of the Kenosha County Jail was found unresponsive in his jail cell at the downtown Pre-Trial facility. The inmate was discovered by a correctional officer who had been conducting cell checks. The inmate was hanging from bedding within his cell. CPR was initiated as rescue was called, however, the inmate remained unresponsive.
Jail Medical Staff and the Kenosha Fire Department responded, and he was transported by rescue to Froedtert South Pleasant Prairie campus where his condition was described as critical.
Investigators from the Racine County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Pre-Trial Facility to conduct the investigation based on an agreement between the two departments. The Racine County Sheriff’s Department will be the lead agency in the investigation.
The inmate is a 25-year-old man from the City of Kenosha and was being held in jail on felony and misdemeanor charges as well as a probation hold. The name of the inmate is being withheld at this time.
The investigation is continuing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
