[ARCHIVED] Silver Lake Ice House Trail addition ready for use

County Executive Jim Kreuser today announced the opening of the latest addition to the Kenosha County multi-use path system.

“With this additional segment, the Silver Lake Ice House Trail is about a mile in length,” Kreuser said. “It’s a wonderful addition to the Village of Silver Lake and for all of Kenosha County.”

The new 600-foot segment of the Silver Lake Ice House Trail is located from the intersection of Lotus Drive and Pryor Street in the Silver Lake Business Park, westerly to East Dells Road in the residential area of the Village. The location of the new trail segment follows the abandoned railroad bed of the KD Line.

“Now there is direct access from the residential subdivisions of the Village of Silver Lake to the existing Silver Lake Ice House Trail,” Kreuser said of the newly completed segment of the trail. The existing trail extends along the north shore of Silver Lake to the Silver Lake County Park Beach. In addition, a new pedestrian crossing will be in place across County Trunk Highway “B” at Lotus Drive.

The new 10-foot wide asphalt path is open for use by pedestrians, bikes or other non-motorized use. In order to provide a safe environment for path users, motorized vehicles including, but not limited to cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATV’s or snowmobiles are prohibited on the Ice House Trail. The trail construction was completed by Kenosha County Highway personnel at a cost of $24,000.
