Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman today released the following statement upon her signing of an amendment to 2011 Resolution 63, allowing for the lawful carrying of concealed weapons in some county facilities and properties:

“The measure approved by the County Board earlier this month will help to ensure that the rights of law-abiding citizens are not unduly restricted, and I am confident it will be implemented effectively in our county facilities.

“I am a longtime supporter of responsible gun ownership and voted in favor of concealed carry numerous times during my years in the state Legislature, as I believe in the right of honorable people to bear arms as allowed by state law.

“I thank the County Board for the work that it put into debating this measure and listening to a wide variety of views from the public.

“Going forward, there will be a transition period as the county administration works through implementation of the new policy, particularly as it relates to our employee handbook. Related updates will come before the County Board in the near future.”
