2 children injured in Somers crash

On Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, at 6:04 PM, Kenosha County Deputies, Detectives, and Fire/Rescue personnel from the Village of Somers responded to the 400 block of Sheridan Road for a serious vehicle crash.  Initial reports indicated that a 2005 gray Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, swerved to avoid striking a vehicle in front of it, and traveled off of the roadway striking a tree.  

According to the deputies on the scene, the operator of the Jeep, a 27-year-old woman from Kenosha, WI identified as Erika McCoy, and her two children ages (2) and (7) were injured in the crash.  Deputies stated that the children were not wearing seatbelts or secured in a safety seat.  Due to the severity of the injuries, the Kenosha County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated and responded to the scene to investigate the crash.

The operator and her children were transported to an area hospital and upon further evaluation by medical personnel, the seven-year-old child was transported to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with possible life-threatening injuries.  The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

McCoy displayed evidence of intoxication and was taken into custody and transported to the KSD Jail for OWI w/ passengers under 16 causing injury, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, and knowingly operate a motor vehicle while suspended causing great bodily harm.
