[ARCHIVED] Downtown WIFI advances; Silver Lake Park gets free outdoor WIFI

The Downtown WIFI project advanced Tuesday when the Kenosha Public Museum Board gave approval for mounting the necessary equipment on both the Public and Civil War Museums.

Also, free, outdoor WIFI is now available at Kenosha County’s Silver Lake Park.

For the Downtown WIFI project, coordination on the installation plans between the museum’s director, Dan Joyce and County IT will begin early next week. The Harbor Park area will have WIFI coverage by the end of October 2015. The museums have been a critical link to the overall plan and will provide the backbone to connect to Veteran’s Park, Southport Marina and other adjacent areas.

Equipment has been installed at Kemper and Anderson Art Centers and will be generally available for use by the end of September. Additionally, details have been finalized for mounting the appropriate equipment at Carthage College. It is expected that WIFI at Carthage will be available by mid-October.

Once Harbor Park, Carthage and Southport are completed, planning for the next phases will commence. The Kemper Center, Carthage and Museum locations are the foundation points for the network and are the outside edges. With these complete, work will focus on filling in the area inside of the edges.

Similarly, on September 4, WIFI access was introduced to the Silver Lake Beach area. While the functionality is the same, WFI access at Silver Lake is identified as kcparksWIFI and is separate from dkiWIFI in the downtown area. Future plans for Kenosha County parks include WIFI for Petrifying Springs and more County parks planned to be available by May 2016.
