Eighteen cyclists are taking home prizes from Kenosha County’s recent Bike to Work Weeks Contest.
Bicyclists were invited to enter the contest each day that they rode during Bike to Work Weeks, June 11-24. Winners were chosen at random.
Bike to Work Weeks are held each June to help promote healthy transportation alternatives, to encourage safe bicycle riding across Kenosha County and to showcase the many benefits of biking to work – including improved health, lower transportation costs and a cleaner environment.
“Thanks to everyone who participated,” said 12th District Kenosha County Supervisor Leah Blough, sponsor of the County Board resolution designating the local Bike to Work Weeks. “Participation has been tremendous, and it was great to see Kenosha County get out and ride!”
Bike to Work Weeks were sponsored by Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser, Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian, the Kenosha County Board, the Kenosha City Council, the Kenosha Bicycle Ambassadors and the Kenosha County Multi-Use Trail Committee.
Prizes for the Bike to Work Weeks Contest were donated by Andrea’s, the Kenosha News, Jockey International, Total Cyclery, Ski & Sports Chalet, The Bike Shop at Southport Rigging, the Kenosha Bicycle Ambassadors, and Supervisor Leah Blough. The prizes included cycling equipment, clothing and books, Kenosha News subscriptions, gift cards, mugs and candy.
The contest winners were: Frank Martinelli, Richard Kositzky, David Walkowski, Bruce Sedloff, Tyson Wilda, Jamie Watkins, Christine Salvatore, Kathy Van Duyn, Holly Khaligian, Zohrab Khaligian, Michael Callovi, Scott McClain, Peggy Frizzle, Dixie Avila, Christine Gabron, Brandon Talley, Anthony Molinaro and Nicole Tridle.
Kreuser and Blough thank the sponsors and congratulate the contest winners.
“The participation by cyclists and local businesses was outstanding,” Kreuser said. “Kenosha County has many beautiful places to ride, and we’re working to make it as safe as possible with our paved trails, bike lanes and widened shoulders.”
“While Bike to Work Weeks are over,” Blough said, “it’s important to remember it’s always a good time to go out and get some exercise on a bike, especially during our beautiful summer months.”
