[ARCHIVED] Nearly two dozen tax-delinquent properties up for auction through April 16

Tax-delinquent property

The Kenosha County Clerk’s Office is auctioning off 23 tax-delinquent properties.

Nearly all of these parcels are vacant land; two of them contain a house. All came into county control because their previous owners did not keep current with paying their property taxes.

Sealed bids will be accepted through 12:45 p.m. on Monday, April 16. Bids will be opened at 1 p.m. at the clerk’s office in the county Administration Building, 1010 56th St., Kenosha.

“This is a great opportunity for buyers to pick up parcels, in many cases well below market rate,” County Clerk Mary T. Kubicki said. “Selling these properties also puts them back on the tax rolls, which is beneficial to all of us as taxpayers.”

Per state law, all bids under the stated minimum price will be rejected. The county is not required to accept the highest bid; rather it has discretion to accept the bid most advantageous to the county, taking into consideration such factors as how the property will be used and whether it will be subject to real estate taxes.

Minimum bid prices for the parcels range from $800 to $50,000. All will be sold as is.

Buyers are not responsible for prior years’ delinquent taxes but will be assessed taxes for the entire current calendar year. Buyers are responsible for any outstanding utilities, including but not limited to water, sewer and gas.

More information, including auction packets, are available in the clerk’s office or online at http://www.kenoshacounty.org/1650/Tax-Deeded-Parcels-For-Sale.
