[ARCHIVED] Twenty-eight properties on the block in latest Kenosha County tax-delinquent property auction

The Kenosha County Clerk’s Office is now accepting bids for 28 parcels in a tax deed property auction that began this week.

Sealed bids will be accepted through 12:45 p.m. Monday, July 30. Bids will be opened at 1 p.m. at the clerk’s office in the county Administration Building, 1010 56th St., Kenosha.

Opening bids for these properties range from $1,500 to $50,000. Of the 28 parcels up for auction, 18 are vacant land, eight contain a house or duplex and two are commercial buildings.

Opening bid amounts were set by the County Board’s Finance and Administration Committee.

The county assumed control of all of these properties through the tax deed process because their former owners had gone delinquent with their property tax payments. This is the second grouped auction of properties that County Clerk Mary T. Kubicki has administered in the last three months.

“Holding these auctions is a win-win for buyers and taxpayers in Kenosha County,” Kubicki said. “Bidders are often able to purchase parcels for well below market rate. At the same time, selling these properties puts them back on the tax rolls, which helps the county and other units of government keep taxes lower for all of us.”

All of the properties up for auction will be sold as is.

Under state law, all bids under the stated minimum price will be rejected. The county is not required to accept the highest bid; rather it has discretion to accept the bid most advantageous to the county, taking into consideration such factors as how the property will be used and whether it will be subject to real estate taxes.

Buyers are not responsible for prior years’ delinquent taxes but will be assessed taxes for the entire current calendar year. Buyers are responsible for any outstanding utilities, including but not limited to water, sewer and gas.

More information, including auction packets, are available in the clerk’s office or here: http://www.kenoshacounty.org/DocumentCenter/View/8227.
