[ARCHIVED] Kreuser appoints steering committee for 2020 suffrage celebration

Susan B. Anthony

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote, Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser has appointed a special steering committee to coordinate celebrations across the county in 2020.

“It took activists and reformers nearly 100 years to win the right for women to vote when the 19th Amendment was passed on August 26, 1920,” Kreuser said. “We want to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of the Women’s Right to Vote with a year of events across Kenosha County in 2020.”

Kreuser has appointed the following to the Kenosha County 2020 Centennial Suffrage Steering Committee:

  • Cathryn Bothe
  • Guida Brown
  • Pam Drummond
  • Gail Gentz
  • Diane Giles
  • Lisa Guerrero
  • Adelene Greene
  • Frances Kavenik
  • Judge Barbara Kluka
  • Jennie Tunkieicz
  • Judge Mary Wagner, and
  • Joan Wilk

“We see this as an opportunity to involve all Kenosha County citizens in this celebration,” Judge Wagner said. “We’re excited about all the opportunities there are to celebrate, large events like a film festival or a ‘'Big Read’ focusing on the women's right to vote or small events like a guided discussion with friends at dinner.”

The steering committee is looking to encourage schools, non-profit organizations, businesses and citizens to plan events in celebration of the Women’s Right to Vote.

“It is the directive from County Executive Kreuser and the commitment of the steering committee that the countywide events and activities all be non-partisan and inclusive,” Judge Kluka added. “The celebration should reflect the spirit of the support that made the 19th Amendment possible.”
