The Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services later this month will host an informative Town Hall Meeting on VA and TRICARE Benefits and a VA Commemoration Ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Veterans, active-duty military members and their families are invited to the event, to be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Kenosha County Job Center, 8600 Sheridan Road, Kenosha.

Veterans will have the opportunity to ask questions on various topics pertaining to VA Benefits: burial, compensation, health care, life insurance, Medicare, pension, survivor’s pension, mental health, suicide prevention, education, caregivers, vet centers, and CHAMPVA.

“Kenosha County puts a premium on making sure its veterans and their families have access to the benefits and services they deserve, and this town hall meeting is a great outlet for people to find out what’s available,” said Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser. “It’s also a nice way to pay tribute to those who honorably served our country a half century ago now, in the Vietnam War.”

VA Commemorations of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Ceremony are held across the nation, as an opportunity for all Americans to recognize, honor and thank our Vietnam War Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice during one of the longest wars in our country’s history.

Additionally, at the March 28 event, surviving spouses of Vietnam-era veterans – those who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time from Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location – will be honored at the ceremony and presented with the Surviving Spouse of a Vietnam Veteran Commemoration certificate and lapel pin.

“This event is another great opportunity for veterans, their families and the community to receive useful VA information, but most importantly to have your questions answered by VA subject matter experts,” said Ali Nelson, director of the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services. “We’re also excited to honor our Vietnam veterans and surviving spouses of the Vietnam War era.”

This event is hosted by: Kenosha County Veterans Services, the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center and its Kenosha Community-based Outpatient Clinic, the VA Regional Office- Milwaukee, the Evanston Vet Center, the National Cemetery Administration and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs.
