[ARCHIVED] Wrong-way driver arrested after crash on Highway 50

On 05-12-2019 at 11:19 am the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, Village of Bristol Fire and Rescue, and the Village of Salem Lakes Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a two-vehicle rollover crash in the 19600 block of STH 50. The investigation indicated a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze was reported driving recklessly traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of STH 50 prior to the crash occurring. The Chevrolet Cruze was determined to have struck two separate westbound vehicles as it was traveling the wrong way on STH 50.

During the investigation, it was determined the Chevrolet Cruze was being driven eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes of STH 50 when it initially struck a 2017 Ford F150 in the 20000 block of STH 50. The two adult occupants of the Ford F150 were not injured during the collision. The Chevrolet Cruze failed to stop after the collision and continued traveling east in the westbound lanes of STH 50.

In the 19600 block of STH 50 the Chevrolet Cruze struck a 2008 Chevrolet Traverse that had just completed a left turn from the median to travel west on STH 50. This crash resulted in the Chevrolet Traverse rolling over onto its side.

The four occupants of the Chevrolet Traverse two adults and two children reported no injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze had very minor injuries and displayed evidence of intoxication. He was later arrested and taken to the Kenosha County Jail. He is facing numerous charges including Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated 2nd Offense, Hit and Run, Reckless Driving by Endangering Safety and Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway. He is identified as 25-year-old Charles D. Brewer of Island Lake, IL.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department reminds drivers to always drive safe and to report any suspicious erratic driving they observe.
