[ARCHIVED] Video visitation to begin at Kenosha County detention facilities

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is announcing the implementation of video visitation at our Detention Facilities. This new process will change the current, traditional, non-contact visit process and replace it with a more convenient video service. This change will take effect at the Kenosha County Detention Center on June 19 and at the Pre-Trial (Downtown) Facility on June 20.

The Sheriff’s Department has contracted with Global Tel Link (GTL) for the equipment and service.

Friends and family must register to be a visitor at our facilities and must schedule a visit in advance. There are three options to complete this process.

The first option involves prospective visitors going to https://kenoshasheriffdetentions.gtlvisitme.com/app on their home computer. At that site, they can register and schedule a visit.

The second option is to come to the Kenosha County Detention Center Lobby or the lobby of the Public Safety Building. There are registration and scheduling kiosks located at both locations.

The registration and scheduling process can also be completed on the Android platform by downloading the “GTL Vismobile app”. This application is not available on the Apple platform.

Once the registration process is completed and a visit is scheduled, family and friends of the inmates/detainees will have two convenient options to visit at our facilities.

On-Site Video Visits: This option requires the visitor to come to the facility that the inmate is residing. The visitor must register at least one day but no longer than seven days in advance of the visit. The visitor must arrive 15 minutes in advance of the scheduled visit to check in with staff at the facilities. At the scheduled time the visitor will be connected via a video system with the inmate/detainee. Each inmate will receive one 25 minute visit per week. This is consistent with the current number of visits allowed to an inmate/detainee.

Off-Site Video Visits: This convenient option allows the visitor or attorneys/professional visitors to visit from their home/office computer or Android mobile phone. The visitor must register and schedule the visit as normal, but the visitor is not required to come to the facilities. There is a fee for this service of $4.00 for 10 minutes or $10.00 for 25 minutes.

We project that this system will result in a reduction in the wait time and frustration of attempting to visit inmates. Currently, visitors fill the lobbies at both facilities, waiting in long lines during the open visitation times. This system will eliminate lines and wait times due to scheduling capabilities.

We also project more secure and safer facilities as the inmates/detainees will not have to be moved within the facilities to the visiting areas resulting in savings of manpower, time, and money. These resources can be allocated to other areas of the facilities.
