[ARCHIVED] Statewide availability of marriage certificates to expand

It will soon be easier to obtain a copy of your marriage certificate, Kenosha County Register of Deeds JoEllyn Storz announced today.

Effective Jan. 2, 2020, individuals married in Wisconsin will be able to receive a copy of their marriage certificate from any register of deeds office within the state.

Register of deeds offices across the state are already able to issue birth certificates from all Wisconsin counties, Storz said. Certificates of death are available statewide for deaths occurring on or after Sept. 1, 2013, and certificates of divorce are available statewide for divorces occurring on or after Jan. 1, 2016.

“Adding marriage certificates to the list of documents available statewide makes it that much easier for people to get the records they need, close to home,” Storz said.

Storz said that while not all vital records are eligible for statewide issuance, the State Vital Records Office continues to work with register of deeds offices to add or update specific vital records on demand – with the goal of having all eligible records available.

Individuals may contact the Kenosha County Register of Deeds office to receive more information about the statewide availability of records.

The office, located at 1010 56th St. in downtown Kenosha, may be reached at 262-653-2444. Residents may also retrieve records at the office’s satellite location in the Kenosha County Center at highways 45 and 50 in Bristol.
