[ARCHIVED] Petrifying Springs Park to Close Today

Petrifying Springs Park in Somers will be closed starting today (Thursday, April 18, 2013)
Kenosha County Parks General Manager Jonathan Rudie said today.

"We are closing the park due to high water and flooding," Rudie said. "Water is right up to the
bridge and water is two-feet deep or better in some of the grassy areas."

Last year, a dam, which had impeded water flow and caused regular flooding in the park, was
removed. Rudie said the steady, heavy rain exceeded the new capacity.

Without the new bridge, Rudie said the park would have had to close more often this month.
The Carlisle Family Dog Park will also be closed, Rudie said.

The park will reopen when water subsides. Rudie said they will monitor the situation regularly.
