[ARCHIVED] Missing in Wisconsin

The Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office is sponsoring the first ‘Missing in Wisconsin’ event on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Madrigrano Marina Shores, 302 - 58th St., Kenosha. This event is free and open to the public. Adults and children are encouraged to attend.

The purpose of the event is to honor the missing, provide education, and promote child safety.
Several local law enforcement agencies, as well as non-profit groups and guest speakers will be showcased at the event. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit and Bomb Squad unit will be holding demonstrations. Parents will have the chance to have their children fingerprinted. The Kenosha County Health Department will be handing out cable gun locks. The Henning Foundation will be promoting child safety. For those families who have a loved one who is missing, a police report will be taken about the missing person, a report will be submitted to NamUs (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System) about the missing person, a DNA sample will be taken to also submit to NamUs, and the family will meet with a police detective to make sure that all of the information is obtained about the missing person.

Guest speakers for the event will include: Lori Bruski of NamUs, who will talk about what to do if a loved one goes missing; Garry Henning of the Henning Foundation, who will discuss his family’s experience and the foundation’s child safety initiatives; and Carol Ryan of Team Hope, whose daughter was found alive due to an Amber Alert.

A vigil will also be held at the end of the event in remembrance of those people who are still missing.
