Original news release: April 18th, 2021, 4:51 a.m.: 

On Sunday, April 18th, 2021, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department deputies and detectives responded to the Somers House Tavern (1548-Sheridan Road) for reports of a shooting that occurred early this morning at about 12:42 A.M.  The shooting resulted in three fatalities.  Two other gunshot victims were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. 

The suspect has not been located at this time.  The suspect is described as a black male over six feet tall wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt.  This appears to be a targeted and isolated incident.  We do not believe there is a threat to the community at this time.  The names, ages, and cities of residence for the victims are still being determined.

Sheridan Road is closed near the scene.  We ask that this area be avoided so the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department can continue a proper investigation.

The shooting investigation is active and ongoing.  Kenosha Sheriff’s Department needs to rely on the public’s assistance and cooperation when investigating crimes. Sheriff David Beth will be holding a press conference later today.  Details of the time and location will be released.

Update:  April 18th, 2021, 6:05 a.m.:

Sheriff Beth will be conducting a press conference at the Carthage College Smeds Tennis Center (2001-Alford Park Drive) at 7:00 A.M.

Update: April 18th, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.: 

Kenosha County Sheriff’s department continues to investigate this incident.  This has been a collaborative effort involving dozens of law enforcement officers from seven different agencies and eight fire departments.  This complex investigation involves several crime scenes.  

We have learned there were (6) confirmed shooting victims and at least (1) possible unknown shooting victim.  As stated earlier, there are (3) deceased male victims, and (3) injured male victims that have been hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

Detectives and other involved law enforcement officers have conducted numerous interviews and collected a great deal of evidence from the crime scenes including the impounding of several vehicles.  Detectives have followed up on multiple leads and gathered surveillance video evidence during extensive neighborhood canvasses.  KSD detectives and crime scene technicians continue to process the crime scenes.

A person of interest has been located and will be criminally charged with (1) count of 1st-degree intentional homicide with additional criminal charges to follow pending further investigation.  There is no threat to the community at this time.

Update: April 19th, 2021, at 11:05 a.m.:

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a suspect from the Somers House Tavern shooting that occurred on April 18th, 2021.  He is identified as 24-year-old Rakayo Alandis Vinson. He is currently in custody at the Kenosha County Jail.  

Today, April 19th, 2021 at 1:30 PM Sheriff David Beth will be holding a press conference regarding the current investigation and subsequent charging of Rakayo A. Vinson.  The press conference will take place at the Kenosha County Public Safety Building, Emergency Operations Center, 1000-55th Street, Kenosha, WI, 53140.

Update: April 19th, 2021, at 1:30 p.m.:

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is now able to identify the victims of the Somers House Tavern shooting investigation.
