Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman released the following statement on the shared revenue proposal that Assembly Republicans announced today:

“As the conversations in Madison continue, it appears we’re headed in the right direction, as far as putting counties and municipalities in a better financial position than they are today.

“With the minimum 10 percent increase in shared revenue that is being discussed, Kenosha County would stand to receive an estimated boost of $400,000 in support from the state, and the doubling of the training reimbursement for law enforcement officers would bring us an estimated $50,000 in additional funds each year.

“The Innovation Fund that is being discussed is also an intriguing proposal that would reward local governments for collaborating to find efficiencies. Kenosha County was a pioneer in combining services with the formation of Joint Services more than 40 years ago, and I would welcome further opportunities where consolidation makes sense.

“I look forward to more details to come, and to continued productive discussions between our legislators and Gov. Evers.”
