[ARCHIVED] Bumpy railroad crossing to be repaired

A bumpy railroad crossing on State Highway 50 near Cooper Road/French Drive is being ordered to be repaired by June 1, Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser announced today.

State Railroad Commissioner Jeffrey Plale is ordering the repair by the Union Pacific Railroad Co. following a complaint filed by Kenosha County in September and a hearing on the matter in December. The City of Kenosha and the Village of Pleasant Prairie both supported the complaint.

“We appreciate the quick action by Commissioner Plale to order the needed repair of that heavily travelled area in Kenosha County,” Kreuser said.

The order by Plale finds that Union Pacific Railroad Co. has failed to maintain the crossing at-grade of State Highway 50 with tracks in good condition and repair for the travelling public. The repairs should be made as soon as possible and completed by June 1, Plale’s order states.

“Anyone who has driven over those tracks knows it’s a very jarring ride that could also cause vehicle damage,” Highway Commissioner Gary Sipsma said. “This will be a welcome improvement and we appreciate the finding and repair order.”
