[ARCHIVED] Area events to observe Memorial Day

Events to observe Memorial Day will be held across Kenosha County over the holiday weekend. Following is a list of programs, provided by the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services:


What: Kenosha Today with Scott Barter: Honoring Our Heroes

Who: Scott Barter and American Legion Post 21

When: Saturday, May 27, 2017, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Radio show airs 10 a.m. to noon on WLIP-AM 1050.)

Where: American Legion Post 21, 504 58th St., Kenosha

What: Memorial Day Ceremony – to include posting of the colors, singers performing the National Anthem and “Some Gave All,” and Bugles Across America sounding taps.

Who: Kenosha County Veterans Council

When: Saturday, May 27, 2017, 11 a.m. The ceremony will be followed by a pulled pork dinner.

Where: Kenosha Job Center, 8600 Sheridan Road, Kenosha

What: Memorial Day Ceremony at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery – to include featured speakers Gov. Scott Walker, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Shawn Isbell, command master chief at the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill.

Who: Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs

When: Sunday, May 28, 2017, 11 a.m.

Where: 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, (adjacent to the Wisconsin Veterans Home)

What: Memorial Day Ceremony – to include singing of the National Anthem and “Eternal Father,” a flower dedication, and the U.S. Coast Guard providing the honor guard.

Who: Navy Club Ship 40, Kenosha

When: Monday, May 29, 2017, 9 a.m.

Where: At the corner of Sixth Avenue and 54th Street, Kenosha

What: Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade, Silver Lake

Who: American Legion Post 293, Silver Lake

When: Monday, May 29, 2017, 9 a.m. Service in front of the American Legion Hall to follow immediately after the parade.

Where: 307 N. Cogswell Drive, Silver Lake

What: Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parade, Twin Lakes

Who: American Legion Post 544, Twin Lakes

When: May 29, 2017. Ceremony will start at Mount Prairie Cemetery 9:00 a.m., then move to St. John’s Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Parade from Lance Park to the American Legion post begins at 11 a.m., with a ceremony to follow at the Legion post.

When: Monday, May 29, 2017. Memorial Day Ceremony at noon, Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1 p.m.

What: Memorial Day Ceremony – to include POW/MIA service

Who: Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans

When: Monday, May 29, 2017, noon
