[ARCHIVED] Kenosha County Parks 90th Anniversary Celebration

Kenosha County Parks is celebrating its 90th anniversary by hosting a free community event on Saturday, Aug. 5, at Petrifying Springs Park.

The festivities will start at noon and close with fireworks at dusk. The event will feature free entertainment including live music, face painters, magicians and children’s activities throughout the park, located at 5555 Seventh St. in the Village of Somers.

Food and refreshments will be available at the Petrifying Springs Biergarten, where headliner bands will perform from noon to 8:30 p.m. Western Kenosha County Transit will provide shuttle services for visitors to pavilion and parking areas, including overflow parking located at UW-Parkside Parking Lot B. Each park pavilion will host a schedule of features and live entertainment, with dozens of educational booths throughout the park’s multiuse path.

Old Settlers Oktoberfest will sponsor a 50/50 raffle to raise funds for the construction of a band shell for Old Settlers Park in Paddock Lake. The goal of the event is to raise enough funds to create a permanent stage for live music within the park.

“We hope everyone will come out to help us wish the county parks a happy birthday,” County Executive Jim Kreuser said. “I think the founders of the Kenosha County Parks Commission in 1927 would be proud to see the beautiful, active state of our parks today, as they continue to improve the quality of life in our community.”
