[ARCHIVED] Public meeting to focus on Kenosha County Trunk Highway S reconstruction alternatives

A public involvement meeting will be held this month to discuss the alternatives for the second phase of an upcoming reconstruction and expansion of Kenosha County Trunk Highway S.

Phase 2 of the project involves expanding Highway S to four travel lanes from the Interstate 94 East Frontage Road (120th Avenue) to County Trunk Highway H (88th Avenue) in the Town and Village of Somers and the City of Kenosha.

The meeting is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Kenosha County Center, 19600 75th St., Bristol.

The intent of this public involvement meeting is to present the various alternatives for expanding the roadway to meet future traffic needs, along with the study team’s recommended alternative and information about how that recommendation addresses the need for the project. The meeting is also intended as a forum to gather public input on the project.

Exhibits will be on display showing the various alternatives under consideration, one of which will be identified as the recommended roadway cross-section and layout.

The project team will also be prepared to answer questions regarding the adjacent Phase 1 Highway S project spanning from Highway H to state Highway 31 (Green Bay Road); exhibits depicting the preferred alternative for that section will also be on display. Proposed improvements to the Phase 1 section of the project were presented at two previous public involvement meetings.

Construction of both phases is tentatively scheduled for 2020.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning the project. Representatives from the Kenosha County Department of Public Works and engineering consultant raSmith will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

Right-of-way acquisition and temporary grading easements associated with the project are anticipated. Real estate experts will be on hand at the meeting to answer general questions.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting but would like more information are encouraged to contact Kenosha County Highway Commissioner Clement Abongwa at 262-653-1870 or Clement.Abongwa@kenoshacounty.org.

Written comments about the project may be mailed to John Elkin of raSmith, 16745 W. Bluemound Road, Brookfield, WI 53005.

Hearing-impaired people who plan to attend the meeting may request an interpreter by contacting Elkin at 262-317-3312 or john.elkin@raSmith.com at least three business days prior to the meeting.
