[ARCHIVED] KD Park to host annual 4-H Youth Ice Fishing Derby on Jan. 21

2015 4-H ice fishing derby

Kenosha County’s annual ice fishing derby will return to KD Park from 7 to 11 a.m. Jan. 21, 2018, County Executive Jim Kreuser announced today.

The 4-H Youth Ice Fishing Derby is hosted by Kenosha County Parks in cooperation with County Executive Kreuser, the Kenosha County University of Wisconsin-Extension 4-H Fishing Project, Pringle Nature Center and the Fishing Depot in Twin Lakes.

This annual event gives children the opportunity to ice fish with experienced adults, as well as join in special activities including snowshoeing and self-guided hikes through four miles of trails within KD Park.

“This is a perfect opportunity for families to get outdoors in Kenosha County in the winter and shake off cabin fever,” Kreuser said. “Hopefully the fish will be biting. Either way, it’ll be a great day to be out at KD Park.”

There is a $2 entry fee per participant. Anglers are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles, as limited supplies will be provided by the Parks Division. Participants can purchase bait and concessions provided by the Fishing Depot of Twin Lakes.

Prizes will be distributed to participants based on awards for select categories.

The 4-H Fishing Program is a youth organization that provides many different types of opportunities to learn about fishing. In 4-H, young people share, grow, and learn together from various projects, events and activities, under the guidance of their families and other leaders. 4-H is open to all youth from kindergarten through age 19.

Kenosha County’s KD Park encompasses 234 acres with a newly developed parkway, parking lots, storm water management features and increased accessibility to its 39-acre lake. It is located at 8530 352nd Ave. (Highway KD), straddling the border of the towns of Wheatland and Randall.
