  1. Savvy Caregiver

    The Savvy Caregiver will be held on 6 consecutive Tuesdays, October 4 - November 8, 4 – 6 p.m. This workshop is open to those providing care for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. The Savvy Caregiver is a unique approach to family caregiver education. The central concept is the notion of strategy. Throughout the program caregivers are invited to learn, develop, and modify strategies for their particular caregiving situation. Participants will gain increased understanding of dementia and how it affects the person as well as the family, skills to assess abilities of a loved one with dementia, confidence to set and alter caregiving goals, strategies to manage activities of daily living, and perspective on the course of the diagnosis as it relates to the person they are caring for. Offered virtually and in-person, Savvy Caregiver Training Program provides 12-hours of face-to-face training, a caregiver manual & access to community resources. Registration required.

  3. Family Caregiver Support Group

    The role of a family caregiver, while rewarding, can also be challenging when trying to balance life’s responsibilities along with supporting the needs of another individual, family member or friend. The ADRC is offering a new Family Caregiver Support Group the first Thursday of every month. Do you set up medication, run errands, make meals, handle finances, or drive for an adult who isn’t able to do so anymore? This group is for you! Stay connected and join fellow caregivers. Share your experiences, ask questions and learn something new. Facilitated by Susan Johnson, Dementia Care Specialist & Margaret Ricchio, Caregiver Support Specialist. The group will be offered in-person and virtually.

  5. Medicare Minutes: Changing Part D Plans

    Medicare Minute presentations are being offered monthly by the Kenosha County ADRC. These programs provide information on a wide range of Medicare topics. The program will be offered virtually, 10 – 11 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month. SHIP-branded Medicare Minutes are developed by the Medicare Rights Center as a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) National Technical Assistance Center service. The Medicare Rights Center is a national, non-profit consumer service organization. They are one of the SHIP National Technical Assistance Center partners.   7. Someone in Your Life has Dementia: A Roadmap for Care

    The ADRC is offering a new educational program, Someone in Your Life has Dementia: A Roadmap for Care. The virtual presentation is for anyone caring for an individual living with a form of dementia and will be offered every other month, the second Wednesday, noon – 1 p.m., beginning April 13. Susan Johnson, Dementia Care Specialist, has developed and will facilitate this new presentation. The presentation will help prepare and guide caregivers, while building confidence for the road ahead. It will address common caregiver concerns, such as: • Whether recently diagnosed or not, what do you need to know about caring for someone living with dementia? • How do you know what to expect and what your person needs, as the disease progresses?     Please join the Kenosha County ADRC, the Alzheimer’s Association and Garrett Davis Productions for a heart-warming, honest and humorous play about a family who is thrust into managing life with Alzheimer’s Disease. Meet Mama D and her beloved family as they learn how to help her live with her new diagnosis. Garrett Davis Productions, an award-winning production and film studio, brings this dynamic play to life. Unforgettable will educate and entertain viewers as they gain awareness about Alzheimer’s disease. The talented cast includes well-known gospel singer, Lejuene Thomson and American Idol finalist, Scott Savol. This moving, theatrical production is coming to Kenosha, Saturday, October 15. Two showings, 3 & 7 p.m. Tremper High School Auditorium, 8560 26th Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53143. All performances are free, but you must pre-register to attend.
