2. How do I contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)?: You can contact the ADRC by calling us locally at 262-605-6646 or toll-free at 1-800-472-8008, or by sending us an email.

3. How can I help my elderly parent at home?: Contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 262-605-6646 to learn about services that can be arranged to help adults maintain their independence in their homes.

4. Are there any resources to help me stretch my food and grocery budget?: You could participate in a food co-op, visit a local food pantry or apply for food stamps. Contact the ADRC at 262-605-6646 for a complete list of these resources.

5. I don’t think I can afford help. What can I do?: Free assessment and eligibility determination is available from the ADRC. We can assist you with finding help for home healthcare, meals, transportation and more. Call us at 262-605-6646.

6. What is assisted living and does Medicare pay for it?: Assisted living is designed to help adults who are frail or experiencing health issues to live independently by providing daily assistance with meals, medication monitoring, personal care and supervision. Nursing or medical care is not provided. If ongoing medical care is needed, a skilled nursing facility may be more appropriate.
Assisted living cost ranges from $2,500-$6,000 per month. Medicare and Medicaid do not pay for assisted living facilities; however, there may be other funding assistance to pay for part of the costs of assisted living. Call the ADRC at 262-605-6646 for further information and a qualifying screen.

7. Where can an older adult find affordable housing?: There are several subsidized and rent-assisted apartment buildings/complexes in Kenosha County. For more information on housing options, please call the ADRC at 262-605-6646 or see our Resource Database.

8. I need a piece of medical equipment for a short time; can I borrow rather than buy it?: The ADRC maintains a loan closet of durable medical equipment. Donated items are cleaned and refurbished and loaned when available. If an item is not available, we can suggest other loan closet options in the area. Call the ADRC at 262-605-6646 for item availability. The loan closet also accepts donations of gently used medical equipment.

9. Are there any legal resources available for the elderly or disabled?: The ADRC maintains a database of information on a variety of resources including legal representation, education and referral service. You may view some of these legal resources online or call the ADRC at 262-605-6646 to consult with an Information, Assistance and Access Specialist.

10. What can I do if I believe an elderly or physically disabled person is being abused or neglected?: Call Adult Protective Services (APS) at 262-605-6646 or 800-472-8008. An APS worker will investigate in a manner that is not threatening to the alleged victim. Your identity will be kept confidential. For more information, see the Adult Protective Services FAQs.

11. What is the profile of a perpetrator of elder abuse?: Approximately 90% of the reported abusers in Wisconsin are family members.

12. What is self-neglect?: Self-neglect is an adult's inability, due to physical and/or mental impairments, to perform tasks essential to caring for oneself.

13. What transportation services are available to older adults and adults with physical disabilities?: There is a variety of transportation, including some door-to-door services, available in Kenosha County.
