Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman today signed the 2024 county budget into effect, following the County Board’s 22-0 vote to adopt it earlier this week.
“I join Chairman Gabe Nudo in thanking the board for its thoughtful consideration of this responsible budget,” Kerkman said. “The fact that it was a 22-0 vote, with little discussion, reflects a productive consensus that we were able to reach after many months of collaboration on the budget.”
Kerkman said the budget was built around a strong commitment to public safety, along with a continued focus on maintaining and improving the county’s infrastructure.
With some accounting changes made by the County Board during the committee process, county property taxes on the median-value home in Kenosha County — presently valued at $262,000 — will decrease by 16 cents.
“This budget builds on the momentum that earned Kenosha County a top-tier AAA bond rating, and it does so while lowering taxes for homeowners,” Kerkman said. “I am extremely proud of the work of my administration and the County Board to move this forward.”
Highlights of the adopted budget include:
- Personnel additions in law enforcement to devote additional resources to fighting and investigating crimes.
- A continued commitment to maintaining county trunk roads with 13 budgeted miles of repaving.
- Keeping the county on track to move into the new, centrally located Human Services Building on 52nd Street in 2025.
- A health insurance provider change that will result in little disruption for employees and a fiscally positive outcome for the county.
