Things to Know About Fentanyl in Our Community

  • Fentanyl is a cheap, synthetic opioid that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says is 100 times more potent than morphine.
  • Local law enforcement has seized and tested fake prescriptions and counterfeit pills of all types; many have tested positive for fentanyl.
  • The Kenosha County Medical Examiner's Office reports 58 overdose deaths in 2022 with 38 of the 58 overdose deaths involving fentanyl and/or a fentanyl analog. 2023 statistics are not yet available.
  • Multiple naloxone (Narcan) doses might be necessary because of fentanyl's potency.

What is Narcan?

Narcan nasal spray is the brand name of naloxone hydrochloride and is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Common opioids include Heroin, Oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), Fentanyl, Morphine, Codeine (Tylenol 3 and 4), Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lorcet, Zortab, Demerol), Buprenorphine (Suboxone), Methadone, and Nitazene (Isotonitazene, Flunitazene, Metonitazene, Protonitazene, Etonitazene, Clonitazene).
