Military veterans and their families will have the opportunity to climb for free Oct. 6 at the Boundless Adventures in Bristol Woods Park, Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman and other event partners announced today.
The Veterans Climb is open to active-duty military, reserve component personnel and veterans, plus up to two family members of each participant. Two-hour climbing sessions in the aerial adventure park will be available from 3:30 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 6.
“We’re extremely pleased to offer this opportunity to veterans and their families,” Kerkman said. “Our thanks go to Boundless Adventures and all of the partners that came together to make this possible, to give a heartfelt thanks to our active-duty military, veterans, and their families.”
Civilians who wish to climb during this time may purchase tickets for $45 per person, with all proceeds this year going to Veterans of Foreign War Post 7308 in Pleasant Prairie.
Availability for free and paid climbers on Oct. 6 is limited, and registration is required. Operated in a public-private partnership with Kenosha County Parks, Boundless Adventures began offering free military and veterans climb events in 2019, when it first opened. Giving back to this community is important, said Brian Funtleyder, who owns Boundless Adventures with his wife, Lorrie.
“Lorrie and I and the entire Boundless family are humbled and honored to offer our support to our veterans and active military,” Funtleyder said. “Our message to them is simple: Thank you for keeping our family and our country safe. You are heroes and you are appreciated.”
VFW Post 7308 Commander John McCoy expressed appreciation that his post was selected to be the beneficiary of this year’s event.
“We are honored that VFW Post 7308 can take part in this event this year and be able to uphold the VFW motto: ‘Nobody Does More For Veterans,’” McCoy said.
The festivities on the day of the event will include light refreshments and guest speakers at 6 p.m. Representatives of various organizations that serve veterans will also be on hand to share information about available resources.
Jennifer Blasi, assistant director of the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services, said her office is pleased to be a partner in the event.
“Boundless Adventures is a generous friend of our active-duty military, reserve and veteran community, and this event is a wonderful way to thank them for their service,” Blasi said.
About Boundless Adventures:
Boundless Adventures features six acres of obstacle courses that range in difficulty based on the ability and experience of the individual. The aerial adventure park utilizes cables connected to trees or utility poles to build nine courses with over 120 elements that range 20 to 40 feet above the ground for climbers to safely maneuver to each feature.
