[ARCHIVED] Vital records to be available statewide

Regardless of where you were born or where you live in the State of Wisconsin, many of your vital records will be available from any Register of Deeds Office in the state effective Jan. 3, 2017, said JoEllyn Storz, Kenosha County Register of Deeds.

Prior to this change, someone born in Kenosha County, but living elsewhere in the state, would have to get his or her birth certificate from Kenosha County, Storz explained.

The statewide issuance of vital records will allow Register of Deeds Offices to issue birth, death, marriage and divorce records from all Wisconsin Counties if those records are available in the Statewide Vital Records Information System, Storz said.

“The statewide issuance of vital records is going to be a much easier and efficient way to serve our customers, and it will provide much better access to Wisconsin vital records,” Storz said. “We are pleased to be able to offer this more convenient service.”

Storz adds that not all vital records will be eligible for statewide issuance. Those records that are eligible some may not be readily available. The State Vital Records Office is working with register of deeds offices to implement a program to make these records available on demand.

Storz thanks the public for their support and patience as her office works through the implementation of this new service.
