[ARCHIVED] Sheriff's Department responds to handwritten threat at Salem Grade School

On September 18, 2019, at 9:34 a.m. the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department responded to Salem Grade School, 8828 Antioch Road, after school administration reported finding a handwritten threat to the school in a women’s bathroom stall within the school.

School administration was made aware of the words “I will shoot up this school 5th Grade” and immediately placed Salem Grade School into lockdown and notified the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department. Kenosha County Sheriff Deputies responded to the school and are working closely with school officials investigating this threat. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department assigned additional deputies to provide security in the area and around the exterior of the school as this investigation continued. At approximately 11:30 a.m. the lockdown was lifted and students continued their normal routine. Sheriff’s Deputies remained at the school and will remain at the school until students have left for the day.

Sheriff David Beth, the department, and Salem Grade School take all threats or potential threats very seriously to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Salem Grade School and the Sheriff’s Department would like to stress that at this time this incident is not being viewed as a credible threat.
