The Kenosha Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard has been in existence for approximately 20 years. In it’s early days it was usually formed on a spur of the moment as the occasion required it. Deputies dressed in their street uniforms and practiced a few days before the event.

After a few years it was realized that the unit needed to portray a more uniform professional image when representing the Sheriff’s Department in official public functions. As a result, proper uniform attire was obtained along with a department flag and permanent members were recruited and formed into a well rehearsed, highly visible, respected unit of the Sheriff’s Department.

Team members have increase over the years in order to have the Honor Guard perform several functions as a flag bearing color guard and an expert rifle team.

Activities

Today the Honor Guard participates in:

  • Casket watches at law enforcement funerals
  • Ceremonies honoring fallen comrades
  • Local parades
  • Veterans activities

The Honor Guard is also invited once a year to be the guest Honor Guard at the Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service at the state capital in Madison. It’s highly professional appearance and attitude reflects the dedication and commitment of the deputies involved and the department they represent.
